Water is perhaps the second most important thing in a human's life, the first being air. The only problem with clean and drinkable water is that it is not abundant anymore. The rising levels of pollution and overuse of potable water have rendered many rivers and water sources dry. This problem is not something new for the people of India too. Water preservation is the need of the hour and Rajendra Singh understands it more than anyone else.

Walk of peace to spread awareness about water

Known as the Waterman of India, he organized and led a Global Water Walk for Peace in New Delhi on Sunday. The walk aimed to increase awareness about the importance of saving water. The walk was am an element of CMS Vatavaran Film Festival and started in the morning. Participants gathered at the Rajiv Chowk Metro Station and initiated the walk from there and ending at the NDMA Convention centre. Rajendra Singh in an interview said, “We are organising this march to make individuals, particularly the youth who assemble right here in the morning, the necessity to preserve water in a spot like Delhi the place water shortage is prevalent,”.

This walk is just the beginning of his journey as he plans to walk throughout 5 continents to boost consciousness for his marketing campaign to have the human rights to river water and entry to nature recognized by UN. He is already walking the talk as the first walk was held in Stockholm in the beginning of this year.

Rajendra Singh had also been rewarded for his efforts as he was awarded the Stockholm water prize. At the inauguration of the event, which started on October 9, The waterman announced that over 2.25 lakh wells had been revived by individuals. He also added that water rights is far more important than even human rights. Many environmental lovers participated in the walk and boosted the confidence of each other.  Other notable participants included Ashok Lavasa, Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change and Hem Kumar Pande, Special Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change. Rajendra Singh also insisted that youth had to be a regular and cookies element of campaigns like this.

Rajendra Singh is a well known water conservationist and had also received the Magsaysay award. His contribution towards the conservation of water is  renowned and more campaigns like these are expected very soon.
