YouTube’s Red subscription deal i.e., $9.99 month subscription has put the company under fire.

YouTube’s Red subscription deal i.e., $9.99 month subscription has put the company under fire. It looks like the content from the creators who are not on Red will be marked as “private” and thus will be kept away from public view. The Red subscription deal is the company’s latest effort in to generating more revenue and has attracted too much scrutiny for the way its handling its stars. With this subscription deal the subscribers wouldn’t have to go for pre-roll ads for a price on their YouTube channels.  For $9.99 the subscribers get to watch YouTube videos without any ads, access to Google Play Music along with exclusive content from the company’s creator partners like ‘PewDiePie’ and so on.

Robert Kyncl, chief business officer said, “Ninety-nine point nine percent of the content on YouTube will be free, as it always has been.” The viewers of YouTube have the choice to go for a paid subscription or to stay with the free version, whereas the Creators have been left with no choice. It appears that the company has played the wrong strategy by forcing the creators to join them. If a creator chooses not to go with the Red Subscription deal, their videos will be marked as private and nobody else the creator will be able to view them. On the other side YouTube in its defense said that this what both the users and creators have been demanding.

A YouTube spokesperson said, “Today, the overwhelming majority of our partners, representing nearly 99 percent of the content watched on YouTube, have signed up. Videos of partners who don't update their terms will be made private, but we remain committed to working closely with these partners with the goal of bringing them on board.”

There are a lot of content creators on the site with huge fan following and who aren’t actually official YouTube partners. These are the people who use their videos for making money on YouTube. Be it for content creators or consumers, the deal is all about money. Let’s see what YouTube has to say.
